The Perfect Banner

Song of Solomon 2:1-4; Psalm 20:1-5; Psalm 60:4-5

I was walking the aisles of the nearest party supply store looking for just the perfect “Happy Birthday” banner.  It was my daughter’s first birthday.  I wanted it to be big and cute!  I laugh at myself sometimes because I can get hung up on the details of things.  She probably would have liked just any banner because after all she was only one and probably wouldn’t even pay attention to the banner.  But I wanted it to be there for her and everyone else to see.  A simple banner that made all the decorations and the party look perfect cause after all nothing says, “I love you!” like a perfect banner.

God sets the perfect banner over us – His banner of perfect love.  This banner identifies us as His.  Under this banner we are protected.  This banner goes before us to lead us.  And it waves to show God’s victory over sin and death and that we are set free!

I think it’s easy to forget about this banner of love that God sets over us.  We are too distracted or perhaps our spiritual immaturity prevents us from true understanding of what this banner means for us.

Dig Deeper:  Spend some time meditating on these scripture verse.  What does each verse say about this banner of love that is set over us:

“He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.”  Song of Solomon 2:4

“May we shout for joy over your salvation, and in the name of our God set up our banners!  May the Lord fulfill all your petitions!” Psalm 20:5

“You have set up a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it from the bow.” Psalm 60:4

Reflect:  God’s banner of love is set over you!  How does this realization change how you view your worth and value?
